Spooky Witch Hat Mountain by Jason Duigou with Duigou Designs

Inspiration: I found this paper Mache witch hat and thought of bringing all kinds of fun items in our stash to create this unique fun and spooky piece. I hope this inspires you to create something fun! 😊

Description: Halloween shapes were cut on our Glowforge laser cutter on chipboard from vector art created in Adobe Illustrator. These pieces were glued them along with a host of other Halloween inspired chipboards, ephemera, and other items. I coated everything in Black Heavy Gesso and wove the mini-LED lights throughout. I then added three-dimensional items including a miniature weathervane that I twisted and wrapped bones with wire onto it. Black Sand Texture Paste was then added all over the brim of the hat to pull the piece together. Then applied liquid acrylics and acrylic paint in hues of blues and purple to give it a gothic nighttime feel. Waxes and acrylic paints were added to highlight the three-dimensional textures and details. It was finished by adding acrylic paint splatters. The piece measures 10” wide x 10" deep x 8.5" high.

Magical Mystical Mermaid

Inspiration: I found a mermaid wall hanging at a garage sale and an old project canvas that I put together to upscale them both into an undersea scene. I was very excited at how it turned out. I hope this inspires you to create something fun!  Description : I coated the canvas with wood pieces and painted it with shades of blue and purple. For the background, I used real large sea stars, large seashells, chipboard gears and resin shaped all layered to give it depth. I added Finnabair Firebird Art Alchemy Metallique Wax to the deep blue background to give it a vibrant look. T he metal mermaid was painted in lighter blue-green sea colors. I decorated the mermaid’s hair with beaded necklaces and mini pearls. I decorated the body with chipboard gears, small seashells, small resin shapes, pearls, and mechanicals. I added Finnabair Unicorn Effect Paste to give the mermaid an iridescent glittery look and finished the piece with splatter paint. The final piece measures 23.5” x 11” x 1.5...

Mystical Masquerade

  Inspiration:  This is the second in a series of three mixed media pieces inspired by the magnificent masks and costumes from Carnival and Marti Gras. Description : This Mystical Masquerade mixed media piece started with the shadowbox and the head piece. I planned the layout of the background elements using wood gear scraps, chipboard gears, mechanical gears and metal butterflies. I then stenciled the background using soft gloss gel followed by adhering fine lace, gears, mechanicals, and flower elements with heavy body gel. Heavy white gesso was used to seal all the background elements. Acrylic paints were used to paint the face piece! I blended colors of purples and blues on the base. Splatter paint was added to the box top and bottom pieces using various colors of acrylic paint.
