Steampunk Owl Mixed Media Canvas by Jason Duigou with Duigou Designs

Inspiration: I found this 12” x 12” burlap canvas with clock images on sale at a local craft store. I brought together clock themed items to create a fun composition. I hope this inspires you to create something fun! 😊

Description: I brought together moulds, chipboard, gears, clock parts, mechanicals, and other items adhered to the burlap panel. I then added pebbles, crackle paste, and texture paste. All the three-dimensional items were covered with gesso, then liquid acrylics blended with water. Once dried, I added waxes to highlight the details throughout and finished the piece off by adding acrylic paint platters. The piece measures 12” wide x 12" high x 1.5" thick.

Magical Mystical Mermaid

Inspiration: I found a mermaid wall hanging at a garage sale and an old project canvas that I put together to upscale them both into an undersea scene. I was very excited at how it turned out. I hope this inspires you to create something fun!  Description : I coated the canvas with wood pieces and painted it with shades of blue and purple. For the background, I used real large sea stars, large seashells, chipboard gears and resin shaped all layered to give it depth. I added Finnabair Firebird Art Alchemy Metallique Wax to the deep blue background to give it a vibrant look. T he metal mermaid was painted in lighter blue-green sea colors. I decorated the mermaid’s hair with beaded necklaces and mini pearls. I decorated the body with chipboard gears, small seashells, small resin shapes, pearls, and mechanicals. I added Finnabair Unicorn Effect Paste to give the mermaid an iridescent glittery look and finished the piece with splatter paint. The final piece measures 23.5” x 11” x 1.5...

Mystical Masquerade

  Inspiration:  This is the second in a series of three mixed media pieces inspired by the magnificent masks and costumes from Carnival and Marti Gras. Description : This Mystical Masquerade mixed media piece started with the shadowbox and the head piece. I planned the layout of the background elements using wood gear scraps, chipboard gears, mechanical gears and metal butterflies. I then stenciled the background using soft gloss gel followed by adhering fine lace, gears, mechanicals, and flower elements with heavy body gel. Heavy white gesso was used to seal all the background elements. Acrylic paints were used to paint the face piece! I blended colors of purples and blues on the base. Splatter paint was added to the box top and bottom pieces using various colors of acrylic paint.
