Under the Sea "Scuba" Vacation Bible School (VBS) Decorations - Part 1 (click for part 2) This summer, Vacation Bible School at Our Shepherd in Avon, IN, went under the sea with "Scuba" —and we couldn't be more excited to share how we helped in our own way to bring this underwater world to life! 🎉 Nanci, Delaney, and I, dove headfirst into the deep blue to craft decorations that would transport the children into a vibrant underwater adventure. Armed with inspiration from online sources and our own imaginations, we transformed our home and garage into an aquatic workshop, bursting with color and creativity! The children in the neighborhood enjoyed stopping by to check out the fun as we worked in the driveway and garage to create the magic of Scuba for VBS.   Inspiration: I found a box at a garage sale with a nautical map pattern on it and added na utical and steampunk elements to the box including moulds, three-dimensional items, chipboard and mechanical elements. I was very excited at how it turned out. I hope this inspires you to create something fun!  Description : I attached moulds, three-dimensional items, chipboard and mechanical gears and screw heads sealed with Finnabair Art Basics Heavy White Gesso a nd attached with Finnabair Art Basics Heavy Body Gel . I blocked it in colors with acrylic paint and added texture paste sand. I then added Red Rust, Yellow Rust, and Brown Rust Finnabair Art Extravagance Rust Effect Paste to give the elements a rusty look. Burnt Siena liquid acrylic was added to give depth to the piece. Gears, sprockets, and screw head embellishments were added to give contrast to the rusty base art. Inspiration: I found a mermaid wall hanging at a garage sale and an old project canvas that I put together to upscale them both into an undersea scene. I was very excited at how it turned out. I hope this inspires you to create something fun!  Description : I coated the canvas with wood pieces and painted it with shades of blue and purple. For the background, I used real large sea stars, large seashells, chipboard gears and resin shaped all layered to give it depth. I added Finnabair Firebird Art Alchemy Metallique Wax to the deep blue background to give it a vibrant look. T he metal mermaid was painted in lighter blue-green sea colors. I decorated the mermaid’s hair with beaded necklaces and mini pearls. I decorated the body with chipboard gears, small seashells, small resin shapes, pearls, and mechanicals. I added Finnabair Unicorn Effect Paste to give the mermaid an iridescent glittery look and finished the piece with splatter paint. The final piece measures 23.5” x 11” x 1.5...
