Inspiration: I was inspired by a 3D rocket that I printed on our 3D printer and some beautiful space-themed rice papers. I found a wooden oval box at a garage sale and added a stenciled pattern with gel medium, celestial laser-cut planets, moulds, stars, steampunk elements, and mechanical elements. Inspiration: This is the second in a series of three mixed media pieces inspired by the magnificent masks and costumes from Carnival and Marti Gras. Description : This Mystical Masquerade mixed media piece started with the shadowbox and the head piece. I planned the layout of the background elements using wood gear scraps, chipboard gears, mechanical gears and metal butterflies. I then stenciled the background using soft gloss gel followed by adhering fine lace, gears, mechanicals, and flower elements with heavy body gel. Heavy white gesso was used to seal all the background elements. Acrylic paints were used to paint the face piece! I blended colors of purples and blues on the base. Splatter paint was added to the box top and bottom pieces using various colors of acrylic paint. Furniture good caps were added to the bottom to protect the finish.
