Inspiration: My wife and I attended Stamp and Scrapbook Expo in Chicago where we made a mixed media paint brush…pink and white were the colors provided in the class. While it turned out nice, I wanted to re-work it and make it more my style. Thank you to my wonderful wife Nanci Wolter-Duigou for many helpful suggestions. I was very excited at how it turned out! (Much better than pink ). I hope this inspires you to create something fun! Description : We found a wood frame at a garage sale and combined it with additional used brushes for more elements in the composition and to add depth. On the backside of the frame, I added black card stock embossed with gears and applied guilder’s wax and wax paste on it to pull out the highlights. I then stacked various mechanical elements, gears, and small thin brushes to give the background more dimension. Around the frame, I added two brushes and additional gears. Inspiration: We found a Styrofoam Frankenstein head at the local store, so of course I wanted to steampunk him all out! My daughter found a jaunty little hat that was perfect for the steampunk theme giving him a man-about-town vibe. Description : To ensure the piece was sturdy, I mounted it to a wood base and drilled out a hole for a thick dowel rod that went up into the Styrofoam head and glued into place. Next, I covered Frank’s head with gesso and a green paint base color.
